Shadowzone
‘Shadowzone’ uses light to establish the nature of a viewer’s presence in the work. While in ”      ” (quotation) 1995, also shown at Artspace, light had a subtle and subdued presence in the darkness of the gallery, in ‘Shadowzone’ the use of undimmed fluorescent light has itself a brightness and physicality that denies the nature of this dark, windowless space. Light is further transmitted by white, translucent screens that define a discrete but disorienting corridor space in the gallery. Here the light is ambient, accompanied by a parallel sound piece by Düsseldorf artist Marcus Kaiser, ‘an einem ort – an einem anderen ort’ (at one place – at another place) 2000 – 2005…. This will be the eighth location for this additive sound piece.
